This infographic was created with Piktochart, a web-based application. It documents an ongoing elementary action research project concerning the issue of ocean plastic pollution. Each year, students study the problem of single-use plastic consumption and how littered plastic finds its way into the world's oceans. Screencast-o-Matic is a screen capture application that allows the user to merge different audio and visual files into a single video project. Video recording with Screencast-o-Matic can fall into two different software categories--presentation software or representation software--depending upon the user's purpose. This screencast project is a presentation on the functions and extension features available to teachers and students in a BrainPOP classroom. Slides were created using Powerpoint, an informational script was written to align each slide image, and then a screencast was recorded overlapping a slideshow of the Powerpoint slides with live audio.

This instructional video teaching viewers how to make the perfect cup of tea was produced with Camtasia, a desktop screen capture application that falls into the category of multimodal representational software. Videos are built in similar fashion to high-end software applications like Apple's iMovie. Users can manipulate multiple audio tracks set over images and video clips. Text can be added, as can animations. Camtasia's editing features are very user-friendly.

Images can be added from personal files, image libraries curated by Adobe, and open source networks. Videos can be embedded or added through live links. Text options, however, are limited with Adobe Spark. The workaround involves creating word art, charts and diagrams, and infographics off-canvas, taking computer screenshots of these elements, and then uploading the graphics as an independent image.
